Your music, one click away.

Echo is a lightweight music player that lives in your Mac's menu bar — or floats wherever you like. It plays your own music: the library you keep in the Music app, podcasts you find and download right in Echo, or any folder of audio files.

Synced lyrics that follow along

Open the lyrics drawer and the current line lights up and stays in the middle while the song plays. Click any line to jump there. Lyrics come from your own .lrc files, the song's tags, or online.

Big or small, your call

Keep the full player with artwork or one of nine visualiser styles, or switch to the compact player when you just want the controls. Pin it to the menu bar, or tear it off as a floating window that springs back from the screen edges.

Made to fit your Mac

Dark and Light themes that follow macOS, accent colours to pick from, and settings that are all in one place: crossfade, what to do when another app plays sound, lyrics, library and updates.

Everything you need, nothing you don't

Lossless AirPlay

Stream to AirPlay speakers in full quality through Echo's own audio engine, with separate Mac and speaker volumes.

Smooth crossfade

Songs blend into each other over 6 to 12 seconds, and the artwork fades along with the music.

10-band equalizer

Presets, an accurate response curve, clipping protection and hold-to-compare, with separate settings for music and podcasts.

Your Music library

Plays the songs and playlists you keep in the Music app, and keeps your ★ favourites in sync with it.

Folders & podcasts

Point Echo at any folder or drive. Find, subscribe to and download podcasts in Echo, with transcripts made privately on your Mac.

Any speaker

Play Echo on Bluetooth, USB or HDMI speakers — just Echo, while the rest of your Mac keeps its own output.

Polite around other apps

When a video or a call starts, Echo can lower its volume or pause, and comes back when it's over.

Sleep timer

Pause after any time you choose, when the current song ends, or after a number of songs.

Feels at home

Media keys, Now Playing in Control Center, song notifications and Launch at Login.

Fast with big libraries

Thousands of songs scroll smoothly, with search, filters and a detailed info card for every song.

Light on resources

Around 3–4% of one CPU core playing on the Mac, about 11% streaming lossless over AirPlay, nothing while paused, and about 100 MB of memory with an 8,000-song library.

Updates itself

Echo checks for new versions daily, weekly or monthly — or only when you ask.

Plays MP3, AAC, M4A, ALAC, FLAC, AIFF and WAV. Songs protected by DRM (such as Apple Music streaming) aren't supported.

Install Echo

  1. 1

    Download

Download Echo, open the zip and drag Echo into your Applications folder.

  2. 2

    Open it the first time

Echo isn't notarized by Apple, so macOS stops it the first time. Open Echo once, then go to System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.

  3. 3

    Allow what you like

A short welcome window explains the permissions Echo asks for — your Music library, measuring how loud other apps are, and notifications. Then look for Echo in the menu bar.
